Ways of Giving

The Studio School thrives because of the generosity and connection of our community. Board members, parents, alumni, faculty, and friends all contribute, whether through volunteering, attending events, or making financial gifts, to strengthen the vibrant, nurturing environment that defines our school and empowers our students and teachers to thrive. Your support helps sustain programs, resources, and opportunities across the school, ensuring that every student has the tools and experiences to grow.

Matching Gifts

Many employers match charitable gifts, enabling your contribution to make an even greater difference. If your company has a matching gift program, please sign and send the form to:

The Studio School
117 West 95th Street
New York, NY 10025

We will process the forms and let you know when your gift has been matched. If you are not sure whether your employer matches charitable gifts, you can contact your company’s human resources department.

Securities

Gifts of appreciated securities may offer significant tax advantages to the donor and are simple to arrange. You may wish to give securities that you have owned for more than a year, as this method enables you to avoid capital gains taxes and to receive a charitable deduction equal to the full market value of the securities on the date of the gift. When considering any gift of securities, please be sure to consult your tax advisor prior to making the gift.

Please note that you should transfer securities to The Studio School rather than selling them yourself, in order to preserve the tax-deductibility of your gift. To transfer securities, please contact the School and we will provide instructions. This is also important because securities transferred without prior notice may result in our being unable to identify the donor.

Bequests

Naming The Studio School as a beneficiary in your will is another way to offer support. A bequest provides lasting support for Studio. Our trustees recommend that, for estate planning purposes, you consider the following language for use in your wills:

To The Studio School, a 501(c)3 educational corporation, chartered by the Board of Regents of The University of the State of New York, having as its principal address 117 West 95th Street, New York, New York 10025, I hereby give and bequeath $_____________ (gift amount) for the School’s general purposes.

We recommend that your attorney or tax advisor review the specific language in your will to ensure that all legal requirements are met. To discuss this further, or to learn about other planned giving opportunities, please contact The Studio School at (212) 678-2416.

In-kind Gifts or Contributions

Studio appreciates in kind gifts, such as books for our library, offers of weekend homes for staff and/or faculty retreats, tickets to concerts or theater for the faculty, etc.

Planned Giving

When you give a planned gift of cash or non-cash assets your gift can also significantly increase some advantages in your tax, retirement and estate planning strategies. For instance, you can obtain an immediate tax deduction for a charitable contribution, and, in most cases, avoid capital gains tax on appreciation. You may also reduce estate taxes.

With many gifts, you or a loved one can receive investment income for life. With some, you can even increase the amount you are now receiving, or you can defer income as part of your retirement plan.

Life Income Gifts

By establishing a charitable remainder trust, you may make a contribution to Studio and also receive income for life while realizing significant tax savings. Please contact The Studio School for further information.

Gifts support programs, faculty, student experiences, and facilities across the school, allowing Studio the flexibility to address the highest priority needs.

Giving is a longstanding tradition at independent schools, including Studio. While tuition covers the essential operations of the school, community support provides the flexible resources that allow Studio to enhance programs, support teachers, and maintain a vibrant, high-quality learning environment. As a nonprofit that receives no local or federal tax support, Studio relies on tuition, gifts, and revenue from auxiliary programs to operate and continually improve.
