On Saturday, June 1, the 17th annual haiku competition took place at the United Nations International School. Over 1,300 entries, written by students and teachers from across three continents, were submitted in English, Japanese, and French, with a few written in Arabic and Spanish. The panel of judges selected about a dozen poems in each category as finalists and awarded first, second, and third prize from this select group.
The Studio School was well-represented with four finalists receiving Honorable Mentions in the English Elementary Category and one in the English Teacher Category: Khendyll, Ayresman, Anwyn, and Ms. Mabey. Each of our finalists received an award certificate and a copy of the annual haiku journal with their poems published along with commentary from the judges. Congratulations to all our poets!
