The Studio School

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

As an institution, we are committed to:

What We Stand For

What Moves Us

At The Studio School, we dedicate ourselves to seeing individuals in our community in the fullness and uniqueness of their identities. Since our founding in 1971, the richness of life and the common bonds of humanity continue to be celebrated within our classrooms and community. We are determined to cultivate and uphold a space for students to feel comfortable to share their thoughts and feelings, vulnerabilities, and stand up to a world that is filled with racism, inequity, and injustice.

We commit to embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion with all its complexities, and to evolve as a school in understanding and addressing the deep systemic racism and inequities of our society. Reflection, language, and unity are paramount, as we continue to come together with many important on-going discussions surrounding identity, privilege, and the injustices faced by our Black, Asian, Latinx, and Indigenous students, families, colleagues, and neighbors of color.

It is our responsibility as a school to actively educate our faculty, staff, and families, and put in place specific agreements and policies, creating a safe and equitable environment. One where everyone feels they can speak and be heard, so that they learn to their fullest potential and become their authentic selves.

Over the last several months, we have watched our nation confront the systematic racism rooted in our country’s history and identity. We examine these systems of power, acknowledging their existence on both a personal and societal level.

“The paradox of education is precisely this - that as one begins to become conscious, one begins to examine the society in which he is being educated.”
