The Student and the Teacher
Studio teachers fill their
classroom with knowledge, enthusiasm, and kindness.
Having the qualities of both scientists and artists,
they are especially attuned to the growth and
development of their students. With great care
and patience, they concentrate on each child’s
cognitive, social, physical, and emotional well-being
at every stage of development. They serve as
guides in the classroom, creating a challenging
environment that reflects the delicate balance
between instruction and exploration. This process
of teaching involves more than imparting information.
It actively requires both teachers and students
to listen and to ask questions. We use the Socratic
method, encouraging students to expand and deepen
their reasoning abilities, and to honor their
thoughts, feelings, and ideas about the subjects
they are studying. This teaches them how to present
persuasive, cogent arguments (both written and
oral), and to welcome feedback from their teachers
and classmates.
