On April 20, 20ll, the Middle School departed for a three-day trip to Boston accompanied by Ms. Mabey, Ms. Lopez, and Ms. Rotter. They were hoping to run into a Redcoat, or catch sight of Paul Revere on his midnight ride. While they didn’t actually see Paul Revere’s ghost – they did see his statue, and visit his home. They also visited Minute Man National Park, rode the Swan Boats in the Public Garden, listened to Ms. Rotter read aloud Robert McCloskey’s famous book, Make Way for Ducklings, and, starting at Boston Common, walked the Freedom Trail. Along the way they stopped at Paul Revere’s house and the Old North Church. In the evening they went candle-pin bowling and had ice cream, and on their last morning, visited the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, where they listened to Kennedy’s inaugural address.
Striding through Boston streets that are rife with historical significance transported our middle schoolers to the past, and for a brief time made history live again!
